PERFUGIUM MISERIS timelapse

We are excited to be working with the artist Theresa Smithon an art installation for Ramsgate harbour wall, reproducing the motto (Perfugium Miseris) which is found around the harbour’s Georgian lighthouse (http://www.mooch.co/perfugium-miseris).

Once in situ, each letter’s outline will be augmented by a fibre illumination system powered by renewable energy. Although the concept is artist-led, young people in the local community can get involved in a very significant way in its design and technical features. Expertise from the University of Kent’s Applied Optics Group in exploring lighting techniques will be combined with ideas, energy and enthusiasm of young people who will attend a 1-day workshop at the University in which they will learn about light propagation and apply this knowledge through the use of lighting models suited for the specific conditions of the harbourside (tidal movements, algal growth, light scattering in the harbour waters).

Great to see this timelapse again

This is the timelapse video taken in 2016 when PERFUGIUM MISERIS was on the harbour wall in Ramsgate. Please make time to come to our event Saturday 23rd Nov 3-6pm at the Custom House in Ramsgate, CT11 8LP. Drop in for a chat about plans for a new version of this amazing artwork.
